College …

  • Offer diploma and certificate programs in Applied Arts, Business, Health and Human Services and Technology
  • Located in major cities across Ontario
  • Most training/learning is provided by college instructors in a lab or classroom setting

Step 1 – KNOW YOURSELF

  • Learn about your skills, interests and abilities by completing self-assessments
  • Discuss your strengths and interests with your parent/guardian, teachers, guidance counselor and/or mentors

Step 2 – EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Use career exploration resources to investigate the many careers requiring a college education
  • Choose a career or career area related to your skills, interests and abilities
  • Speak to employers, college students and professionals working in your area of interest
  • Job shadow a person or visit a college offering a program in the career area you are pursuing

Step 3 – BUILD PATHWAY

  • Use your Annual Education Pathway Planner to map out course selections related to your career area and college program
  • Discuss your pathway plan with your parent/guardian, teachers, guidance counselor and/or mentors to ensure ou are making appropriate choices

Step 4 – GET EXPERIENCE

  • Complete your 40 hours of community involvement
  • Discuss work experience and cooperative education opportunities with your school’s Cooperative Education/Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) teacher
  • Visit your Career Resource Centre to look for employment to gain work experience
