Step 2 – EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Students will use career exploration resources to investigate the many careers related to an area of interest and skill sets
  • Students will choose a career or career area related to their skills, interests and abilities
  • Students may wish to speak to employers, employees, journeypersons and professionals working in a particular career area
  • Students may wish to Job shadow or visit a post-secondary institution offering a program in potential career areas

Job Futures is a career tool to help you plan for your future. It provides useful information about 226 occupational groups and describes the work experiences of recent graduates from 155 programs of study.

» Canadian Steel Trade & Employment Congress
Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress is a joint-venture between the United Steel Workers and Canada’s steel producing companies. CSTEC provides a range of services to employers, employed and unemployed workers, both inside and outside the steel industry. CSTEC has assisted the steel industry to hire 300 young people into technician, technologist, engineering, information technology and related employment through the Youth Science and Technology Program of Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC). CSTEC assists in promoting steel industry careers in job fairs and other recruitment activities.

OUAC, located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, is a central bureau whose key function is the processing of applications for admission to the province’s universities. 

» Ontario College Application Services
The Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) is owned and operated by Ontario’s 24 publicly funded colleges and also serves the three regional campuses of the University of Guelph (also known as the Agricultural Colleges) and the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences. OCAS provides application to college and data warehousing services to Ontario’s college system.

Each year, the Ontario government invests in college training facilities to expand apprenticeship training and ensure apprentices train on up to date equipment.
